Arrival in Rome. Bus Transfer to hotel. You will be staying in a
wonderful ancient monastery. Free time at your disposal. Dinner and overnight.
Proposal: Lecture on the life and works of the composers who will be studied on
the tour.
Day 2 Rome /
Puccini: Breakfast Whole
day guided tour through the „Eternal City" on the footsteps of Italian
Composers. Under the guidance of an Art Historian the tour will start at Largo
Argentina, where, next to the remains of ancient Roman temples stands the „
Teatro Argentina. 1732, in this former royal Operahouse the first performance of
Rossini’s „Il Barbiere di Siviglia" took place. This was followed by
the first night of the operas by Giuseppe Verdi: „I due Foscari", La
Battaglia di Legnano". After that we will visit
the original locations of Puccini‘s Tosca: The Church Sant’Andrea della
Valle, where the first act takes place, Piazza Farnese (Location of the second
act) and Castel Sant‘Angelo (The third act). Afternoon at your disposal.
Suggestion: Visit the famous Renaissance Piazzas of Rome, if desired with tour
guide (extra charge. The tour will end at the Hotel Hassler, at the top of the
Spanish steps, where Verdi used to when visiting Rome. Dinner and overnight. If
possible attend an opera performance at the Teatro Costanzi, now Teatro dell’Opera,
where on year 1900 Tosca was performed for the first time.
Day 3 Rome: Breakfast Complete day at your disposal,
to get a better feeling of the Eternal City. There is the possibility to
discover by yourself Ancient Rome, the Vatican or one of the many museums or
exhibitions or enjoy shopping in the historic town center.
Day 4
Naples Breakfast,
Depart for Neaples , visit Teatro S. Carlo, built 1737, where the Operas Lucia
di Lammermoor, Poliuto by Donizzetti, Luisa Miller by Verdi and Otello and Moses
by Rossini were performed for the first time. After that continue the visit of
the historic town center (Street named „Spaccanapoli" with its famous
churches and Palazzi, etc.). If possible Opera performance at the Teatro S.
Carlo. Dinner and Overnight at the villa.
Day 5 Naples / Capri:
Breakfast Drive to Pompei and guided visit of the famous city buried by the
ashes from the Vesuvio. Continue along the panoramic route to Sorrento. From
here take a boat ride to Capri. Tour of the island with a Minivan and visit of
the palace of Emperor Augustus. Afterwards enjoy a „Limocello-Tasting"
return to Monastery-Villa, Dinner and Overnight.
Day 6 Sant’Antimo /
Gregorian Chants: Breakfast.
Depart for S. Antimo (south of Montalcino) Listen to the Gregorian chants of the
Monks. The monastery is famous for its Gregorian chants that are sung following
the original music without instruments. The Travertine marble, out of which the
interior of the church is constructed, is referred to, due to its unique
acoustics, as the „Singing Stone" Continue to Montalcino and S. Gimignano.
Guided tour through S. Gimignano. Continue to Florence. Dinner and overnight in
a historic monastery in Florence.
Day 7 Florence /
Donizzetti, Verdi:
Breakfast. Guided tour of Florence. It is build on the banks of the river Arno
and lies harmoniously between the hills, famous for their villas. The capital of
Tuscany is known all over the world for the richness of its art treasures and is
generally considered the Queen of Renaissance. At the theatre „La
Pergola" (1656) first performance of the Opera Parisina by Donizetti, and
Verdi’s Macbeth. In addition you will have the opportunity to admire the Duomo,
Giotto-Tower, the Baptistry, Piazza della Signoria, the Church Santa Croce and
the bridges over Arno If possible, attend a concert in one of the beautiful
churches in Florence. Dinner and overnight in a Monastery-villa in Florence or
Pisa.
Day 8 Florence:
Breakfast. Day at disposal.
Day 9
Lucca / Puccini: Breakfast.
Depart for Lucca and visit of the city of the composer Puccini and the Puccini
Museum. Leave for Pisa. Visit the „Campo dei Miracoli" with the „Leaning
Tower" and the Cathedral. Dinner and overnight in Monastery-Villa in Pisa
or Florence.
Day 10: Breakfast Transfer to
airport. End of services.
OPERA PERFORMANCE:
It is possible to attend an opera performance
in Rome at the „Teatro Costanzi" and in Naples at the „Teatro S.
Carlo", if the dates of the tour overlap with the dates of the
performances. If you wish that
we reserve the tickets for you we will charge a reservation fee.
